Woodland Whispers: Tracing the Spirit of the Ancient Wood

This body of work emerged from time spent in Horner Wood, one of Britain’s largest ancient woodlands. Twisted limbs, fallen trunks, and shifting light became lines of inquiry. Using large-scale collagraphs prints with blind embossing and stencil cut-outs, I’ve sought to trace the spirit of the woodland — not only its form, but its stillness, entanglement, and vitality..

Each piece explores the different textures, forms, and shifting atmospheres found in the heart of the woodland—where twisted limbs whisper stories of endurance, decay, and renewal. Through layered surfaces and tonal depth, they evoke its quiet drama

The series “Woodland Whispers” speaks to both presence and loss—capturing fleeting moments, memory and the timeless hold of oaks, mosses, and mist. It is an invitation to step into the forest’s breath, to feel its embrace, and to reflect on what is ancient, vanishing, and vital.
